Allah Ghazanfar, the mystery spinner of the Mumbai Indians, has been in superb touch during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with the timely wickets, and he continued the same dominance during the same fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Mumbai posted a massive score of 243 runs for the loss of five wickets in the first innings as their left-handed opener slammed a dashing knock of 123 runs in 55 balls at a strike rate of 223.64, thanks to 10 boundaries and eight sixes.

Allah Ghanfar’s double-wicket over hurts SRH in IPL 2026

It was a bit of an odd decision from the MI captain, Hardik Pandya, not to throw the ball to their main spinner, Allah Ghazanfar, who has been in superb form at the start of the campaign. Instead, he went with Will Jacks and leaked 19 runs off the six balls.

SRH raced away to 126 runs without any wickets in just eight overs. It was the sixth century stand between the two left-handed batters for the opening wicket in the IPL, which is the joint record for the Hyderabad franchise along with David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan.

And Ghazanfar, on the fourth delivery of the second over, made a massive difference to draw the first blood with the wicket of Abhishek Sharma. It was a tossed-up delivery outside the off stump as the southpaw looked to slog it onto the on-side and lost his shape. The leading edge died in the hands of the point fielder.

On the very next delivery, the Afghanistan spinner sent back Ishan Kishan for a golden duck. The left-handed batter was cramped to play the cut shot. But the ball came back to break the stumps as Hyderabad got a huge blow with two quick wickets.

At the halfway mark of the innings, Travis Head was dismissed for 76 runs off 30 balls with the help of four boundaries and eight sixes as he failed to keep the ball in the ground to lose his wicket. But the responsibility was on Heinrich Klassen to shoulder them over the line.

The right-handed Protea batter clubbed 31 runs in just 12 balls at a strike rate of 258.33. Hyderabad made its way to 168 runs for the loss of three wickets in 12 overs.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): SRH 189/3 (Travis Head 76, Abhishek Sharma 45, AM Ghazanfar 2/32) vs MI 243/5 (Ryan Rickelton Ryan Rickelton 123*, Praful Hinge 2/54)
