It’s a different time when the teams don’t remain satisfied even after getting 243 runs on the board, and that was the exact situation with the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The home side, led by the unbeaten century of opener Ryan Rickelton, posted a strong score inside their 20 overs, but they had to be careful of the clinical opening stand of Hyderabad between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who have been the biggest factor for their success.

It has not been a strong batting campaign from Travis Head, who has struggled on most occasions of the event with several low scores. Abhishek, even during this chase, helped him off with a fine over boundary and boundary on successive deliveries against Jasprit Bumrah’s opening over.

But the Australian batter finally got his brutal approach against the left-arm seamer Trent Boult, who was welcomed by a massive six by the southpaw. He cut the short ball uppishly to the deep point region as Naman Dhir ran to his left and jumped across to get the catch before the ball burst through his hands and went for a six.

Two balls later, he moved away from the line of the stumps and threw his kitchen sink at the full delivery as it flew over the sweeper cover fence for the same result. But the best shot of the evening off his bat came on the fifth delivery when he walked inside the line and flicked the leg-side delivery over the backward square leg for another six.

SRH earn powerful start in chase of 244 runs

Sunrisers continued to show aggression at the start and put up a huge score in the first five overs. Head, in the blink of an eye and thanks to a few dropped chances, made his way to 49 runs off 18 balls with the help of five sixes and two boundaries.

Meanwhile, Abhishek has cracked 29 runs in 17 balls with three boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 207.14, and it was hard to trust that he was the slowest of the pair.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): SRH 116/0 (Travis Head 66*, Abhishek Sharma 41*) vs MI 243/5 (Ryan Rickelton Ryan Rickelton 123*, Praful Hinge 2/54)
