Ashleigh Gardner has broken her silence on the cheating allegations involving ex-wife Monica, saying she wishes her "nothing but happiness." Here's what she said and how the controversy unfolded

The vice-captain of the Australian women’s side, Ashleigh Gardner, has finally broken her silence on the cheating allegations against her after her estranged wife, Monica Wright, made some serious allegations against her, accusing her of cheating. Wright also criticized Cricket Australia for not doing anything and removing the player from leadership.
Wright claimed that the actions of Gardner should have resulted in some consequences, and CA should have appointed a different vice-captain of the team. Gardner maintained her silence for months on the matter but finally addressed the issue.
Gardner expressed regret over the pain caused and asked for privacy
Having ended her recent stint in the Women’s Hundred 2026, Gardner shared a statement on hr Instagram story, where she asked for privacy and thanked CA for sticking by her and showing support in the tough moment.
“While my separation from my wife is a personal matter, I understand my current relationship status needed to be addressed by Cricket Australia, given my position as the vice-captain. I am grateful that the CA Board has chosen to support my continued leadership. I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the season to come.” Gardner wrote on his Instagram story.
“I am grateful for the time Monica and I shared and sorry for the pain this has caused. I wish her nothing but happiness and success in the future. I won't be making any further comment on this matter at this time and ask that the privacy of those involved be respected.” She addressed.
The controversy stems from infidelity allegations made by her estranged wife
It was April 2025 when Gardner married Wright, as their relationship was strained during last year’s World Cup. A few months after Gardner had moved out of their home, Wright claimed that the all-rounder was involved with Georgia Voll during the World Cup in India.
The Australian board reacted to Wright's recent comments, saying that the matter was private and a personal issue. Her Big Bash side, the Sydney Sixers, also backed the all-rounder during the controversy.
