Defending champions Australia have revealed their team for the eagerly awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa, which will be held at the legendary Lord's Cricket Ground in June 2025. The Aussies, skippered by Pat Cummins, will look to keep their title after beating India in the 2023 WTC final at The Oval. Having led the WTC 2023-25 cycle standings with 62.50 percentage points after playing 12 matches, Australia earned their qualification with an impressive 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series victory over India earlier this year.
The 15-person team has a strong overall combination of players, led by experience with young talent. The batting top order includes seasoned players like Steven Smith, who is leading with 1,123 runs in this WTC cycle, Usman Khawaja, and Travis Head. Cameron Green and Marnus Labuschagne provide depth in the batting order, and Alex Carey and Beau Webster as wicketkeeper-batsmen are options. Pat Cummins will lead the way in pace attack, supported by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. The team can add Scott Boland and Matt Kuhnemann to the pace attack. Veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon will also be very important on the pitch at Lord's, where traditionally there is turn as the match progresses.
South Africa, who reached their maiden WTC final with 55.56 percent, will provide a stiff challenge with their well-balanced team, captained by Temba Bavuma. The Proteas qualified after a nail-biting 2-0 series triumph against Sri Lanka in November-December 2024. Both teams having strong bowling attacks and gritty batting lineups, the final is going to be an engaging one at the 'Home of Cricket.'
Australia Team: Pat Cummins (captain), Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, Beau Webster, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhnemann.
