Watch: Babar Azam dismissed for 4 to end disappointing domestic cricket return

The Pakistan Test captain, Babar Azam, failed to impress in his long-awaited return to domestic cricket as he failed in both innings of the contest, getting dismissed for four runs in the second innings and 12 in the first innings, as he turned up for the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) against the Khan Research Laboratories in Abbottabad.  

He was recently part of the two-match Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean, where he smashed two half-centuries before featuring in the three-match red-ball series against England in the United Kingdom. He left the UK with a fifty after three poor scores with the bat.

Babar Azam fell for just 4 in the second innings for a forgettable comeback

Babar’s return to the President’s Trophy Grade 1 hasn’t gone well as the fans expected. There was a massive number of fans who came to watch the right-handed batter in the park, but he couldn’t do well in both innings of the encounter.

In the second innings, he was trapped leg before the stumps. The right-arm pacer went with a fine out-swinging delivery as Babar was slow to get his bat on the ball. The fielding team appealed loudly as the umpire raised his finger to send the veteran back to the pavilion.

He was on four runs off 14 before being dismissed as his side found themselves 118/3 after his wicket. It wasn’t the comeback he would have hoped for in the domestic cricket of the game.

Babar Azam managed only 12 in the first innings

OGDCL came to bat after the KRL side registered a massive score of 398 runs on the board in the first innings. Babar couldn’t do well even in the first innings, getting dismissed for only 12 runs off 20 balls, collecting only two boundaries at a strike rate of 60.

The Pakistan batter smashed a fine boundary through extra cover but failed to continue the superb work. He was undone by the short delivery as the ball ballooned in the air when he tried to play the pull shot. It was the same way he was dismissed in the UK.

Babar’s century drought in first-class cricket continues to grow as he hasn’t reached the three figures for two years. But he will hope to get the milestone in the home Sri Lanka series.
