Watch: Babar Azam gifts Pakistan's signed bat to King Charles amid Test series failure

The Test captain of the Pakistan side, Babar Azam, has presented King Charles III with a signed cricket bat of the entire team during their squad’s visit to Clarence House in London ahead of the third Test of the three-match series against England, which is scheduled to take place on September 09 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.  

The gesture came during their chaotic series between England and Pakistan, where the tourists lost both the first two games and haven’t put up 200 runs in any of the four innings. Their opening clash ended in a defeat by an innings inside the first three days.

Babar, along with the squad of the Pakistan side and their board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, met the monarch at his London residence on September 02, as the captain handed over the specially signed bat to the King as a gesture of incredible sportsmanship.

The royal meeting provided a brief change of tone from the tour that rapidly ended for Pakistan, who are currently behind by an unassailable 2-0 margin after the hosts won the opening Test by an innings and 103 runs, along with the second encounter by a margin of 194 runs.

In the first innings of the opening Headingley Test of the series, Pakistan lost their opening batter, Azan Awais, on the very first ball and later were bundled out for 171 runs before being folded up for 135 in the second, where only Abdullah Shafique was their lone contributor with the fifty on his name as they lost the contest by an innings and 103 runs.

In the second Test match at Lord’s, Pakistan bowled well and restricted the visitors to 290 runs in the first innings. But their batting continued to flop and was rolled over for 110 and 194 in both innings of the fixture.

The PCB decided to make a massive change mid-series as they called back their seven players and replaced them with seven new players in the squad, besides appointing the white-ball coach Mike Hesson for the rest of the series, removing Sarfaraz Ahmed from the role.
