Babar Azam lights up PSL 2026 with stunning century against Quetta Gladiators

The Peshawar skipper  showed his class with a brilliant century in PSL 2026 against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Cricket Arena on April 19. Leading Peshawar Zalmi, he played a key role in taking his team to a massive total. His innings also helped him reach an important T20 milestone, putting him in elite company alongside top players like Virat Kohli.

Babar scored his century in just 52 balls, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 192.31. It was one of his fastest T20 hundreds and came at a crucial time for his team. His knock helped Peshawar Zalmi post a huge total of 255, putting heavy pressure on the opposition.

His innings was a perfect mix of elegance and power. After an early wicket, Babar took control of the game and built a strong 135-run partnership with Kusal Mendis, who scored 83 off 44 balls. Later, he added quick runs with Aaron Hardie, as the duo put together 66 runs in just 22 balls to finish the innings strongly.

The century came in dramatic fashion on the final ball, as Babar ran hard for a second run and completed it with a full-length dive. This knock also ended his long wait for a T20 hundred, marking his first century in the format after 67 innings.

Babar Azam surpasses David Warner to achieve major T20 milestone

Babar Azam delivered a commanding performance, scoring at an impressive strike rate of 192.31, which included 6 fours and 4 sixes. Batting at number two, he controlled the innings with ease and guided his team into a strong position with his composed yet aggressive approach.

Coming into this match, Babar had shown glimpses of form with scores of 71*, 18, 43, 87*, 43, and 39. However, he had not converted those starts into a century since February 2024. This innings not only ended that wait but also confirmed that he has regained his confidence and rhythm at the crease.

With this century, Babar moved ahead of David Warner to take second place on the list of most T20 centuries, while Chris Gayle continues to hold the top spot with 22 hundreds. The milestone further underlines Babar’s consistency and class in the shortest format.

Overall, Babar has now scored more than 12,000 runs in 355 T20 matches, maintaining an average above 42. In PSL 2026 alone, he has already crossed the 400-run mark in just seven matches, including one century and two half-centuries, making him one of the standout performers of the tournament.

After going through a difficult phase with inconsistent scores, this knock signals a strong return to form. It highlights his ability to bounce back and reinforces his status as one of the most reliable batters in T20 cricket today.
