The Melbourne Renegades (REN) will face the Brisbane Heat (HEA) in Match 2 of the Big Bash League 2025-26 at Simonds Stadium, Geelong. Both teams are looking to start the new season on a positive note after finishing near the bottom in the table last year.

The Renegades finished their last season in sixth place and will be captained by Will Sutherland. They boast an all-star batting group consisting of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Brown, and Tim Seifert. Their bowling attack also sports names such as Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, and Gurinder Sandhu.

Brisbane Heat finished seventh last season and will be captained by Nathan McSweeney. The team has some dangerous batters, such as Colin Munro and Matt Renshaw. In the bowling department, Shaheen Shah Afridi will be the key player to watch, as he can make early breakthroughs with the new ball.

This will be the first BBL match at Simonds Stadium. In the limited T20 matches played here earlier, teams batting first have won more games. Fast bowlers are expected to get some help early, while the pitch may slow down as the match goes on. Batting first could be a good option after winning the toss.
