BCCI may Send 'B' team over Asian Games facility issues

The participation of the Indian side at the Asian Games 2026 may take an unexpected turn, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mulling over the idea of sending their ‘B’ team for the event in Japan if the concerns over the daily facilities during the competition remain unsolved.

The reports have claimed that both the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) were unsatisfied with the present arrangement in Aichi-Nagoya. The women’s T20 competition is going to begin on September 17 and end on 22, while the men’s event is scheduled from September 24 to October 03.

Tent dressing rooms, distant washrooms, tiny hotel rooms — Why BCCI is unhappy with Japan

The reports have noted that the dressing rooms have been set up in tents, with the washroom being located nearly 500 metres away. The rooms’ size in the hotel has also been a concern for the Indian cricket board.

“BCCI and ACC are not happy with the facilities and arrangements in Japan, and the board will send an observer there. The observer will submit its report to us, and if arrangements are not up to the mark, we could consider sending a B team there.” The news report stated.

“We told the Japan Olympics officials during the ACC in a meeting that the dressing rooms were set up in tents and washrooms were just 500 m away from those tents, which has created an unsatisfying situation for the players. Also, the hotel rooms are really small, and it is a big concern.” It has been claimed.

Along with the BCCI, the same situation has appeared for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is also not happy with the condition and can take the same stance.

India’s originally announced squad is under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, with their premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, being in the side along with Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel. The focus will also be on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is expected to open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.

India won the gold medal after the final against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain during the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. They were awarded the title, based on their superior seeding.
