The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for the franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to submit their player retention lists by two more days. The board has revealed in a statement to the franchises that they now have until November 17 to finalize the players they wish to retain or release.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who won the previous two trophies in 2025 and 2026 by beating the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Gujarat Titans (GT), respectively, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, will enter the tournament as the defending champions.

BCCI extends IPL 2027 retention deadline: What has changed and why

The board has set the November 17 date as the deadline for all the teams to announce their retention, as per Cricbuzz, before the auction of IPL 2027. The original deadline was November 15. The date and venue of the mini-auction, however, remain unchanged with the event being scheduled to be held in Goa on December 16.

The date has been extended due to the ODI clash on the same day between India and New Zealand. The fifth and final ODI of the five-match series will be held on the same date at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The board has given the teams an additional two days to complete their retention process.

Meanwhile, an ODI game is set to clash with the auction day as well, with India set to host Sri Lanka on December 16 for the second game of the three-match series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, there is no information as of now that the BCCI has changed that date.

IPL 2027 retention updates: Where every franchise stands before the auction

Rishabh Pant has returned officially to the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the new season, as the Lucknow Super Kings (LSG) opted to get the left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, in their side, which could prove to be a great move by both franchises.
