BCCI finally gives green light for Asian Games 2026 — Here's what changed for Team India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Indian cricketers have got the green light for their participation in the Asian Games 2026. This would be accommodated in facilities arranged by the organizing committee. The hotels are not five-star rated, something which the Indian board offers to the players during the away trips.
The Indian players, under Shreyas Iyer's leadership, have enjoyed the privilege of residing in the five-star lodgings that the BCCI offers during the overseas tours. That won’t be the case, however, during the Asian Games because the top-ranked hotels in Nagoya are not available.
Indian Team's hotel room issue resolved ahead of Asian Games — What was the holdup?
Speaking during the Asian Games send-off ceremony of the Indian side, the board’s vice-president, Rajeev Shukla, confirmed that the hotel offered by the organisers isn’t lavish but would be good for the players to stay in.
“Whatever they (organisers) are providing, we are staying there, and we are keeping a watch on what kind of accommodation is being given so that our players are comfortable. Definitely, those are not five-star but good accommodation.” Shukla expressed.

“Whatever has been offered to our cricketers, that accommodation, we have got the photographs all the way and the videos also of that, so I think it's comfortable. They (cricketers) will be going and staying there because otherwise the options were to make them stay in Osaka or Tokyo; that's far away.” The BCCI president addressed.
BCCI's Asian Games 2026 decision: What it means for India's cricket squad
The reports claimed that the board wasn’t happy with the playing conditions at the Asian Games 2026 and was thinking of sending their B-team for the title defence. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) team was delighted with the ground.
“Sending our B team is a complete rumour. Our full contingent is going with the most talented players, and I hope that we'll definitely win.” The BCCI VP revealed.
India begins their journey in the Asian Games 2026 on September 28, and the team will depart for Tokyo on September 20 to face Japan in a one-off T20I match on September 22.
