BCCI objects to room sharing, India may get cruise ship stay

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised concerns over the accommodation arrangements for the Indian cricket teams at the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. The board is reportedly not comfortable with players sharing rooms and has appealed to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to provide separate rooms for the cricketers.

The accommodation arrangements have become a talking point ahead of the multi-sport event in Japan. The Japan Cricket Association (JCA) has said that teams will be offered hotel accommodation and can also make their own arrangements. The BCCI is keeping a close eye on the facilities and will step in if any changes are needed.

It has also been reported that the India men's team could stay on a cruise ship during the Asian Games, while the women's team may stay in a hotel. However, the IOA has not promised any last-minute changes to the arrangements. The final accommodation plan for both teams is expected to become clearer closer to the Games.

BCCI objects to room-sharing arrangements for Asian Games 2026 in Japan

The BCCI has reportedly told the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) that two players should not be placed in the same room during the Asian Games 2026 in Japan. The board is taking the accommodation issue seriously and wants the Indian players to get the best possible facilities during the tournament.

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said there was no immediate concern over the arrangements. Speaking after a review meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Saikia said the board was confident that the Indian team would not face any major difficulties in Japan.

Saikia also made it clear that the BCCI would take action if any issue arises. He said the board could create its own system if required to ensure that the players and support staff receive the best facilities during the Asian Games.

Why India Men's Team may get a cruise ship stay instead of hotel rooms

The main reason behind the reported cruise ship arrangement is the room-sharing plan for the Asian Games. The hotels arranged by the Japanese organisers are expected to accommodate two or three players in one room. The BCCI is not comfortable with this arrangement and has reportedly asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to ensure that players get separate rooms.

As a result, the BCCI is looking at an alternative arrangement for the men's team. Reports suggest that the Indian men's cricket team could stay on a cruise ship instead of using the hotels arranged by the organisers. Meanwhile, the women's team is expected to stay in a hotel. The move would allow the BCCI to provide more comfortable accommodation for the men's players.

India will enter the Asian Games as defending champions in both men's and women's T20 cricket. Shreyas Iyer will lead the men's team, while Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the women's side.

BCCI to cover business-class Airfare for players travelling to Japan

The BCCI will pay for the airfare of all Indian cricketers travelling to Japan for the Asian Games 2026. The board will not seek financial support from the Sports Ministry, and all players are expected to travel in business class. The women’s team will arrive in Japan on September 14 and return on September 23, while the men’s team will arrive on September 21 and return on October 4.

India will enter the Games as the defending champions in both the men’s and women’s T20 cricket categories. Shreyas Iyer will lead the men’s team, with VVS Laxman serving as head coach. Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh will assist him. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the women’s team, with Amol Muzumdar as head coach, assisted by Aavishkar Salvi and Munish Bal.

With both squads packed with established international names and promising youngsters, the BCCI's priority will now be to ensure that logistical concerns do not affect India's bid to retain both Asian Games cricket titles.
