During the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan squad is involved in another controversy where one of its members committed some form of a breach of conduct. News of this incident came out following an event at the team hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka, just prior to their last Super Eight match of the event. While the identity of the Pakistan player is not known, this incident has sparked a new round of debate regarding what is considered appropriate discipline and player behavior while representing Pakistan.

The report said that the unnamed player had an inappropriate encounter with a female housekeeping staff member that works in the hotel that the team was using as their home base during the tournament. The incident is believed to have taken place while the staff member was performing her duties. The player responded to the incident by pulling the staff member close and holding her before she was able to draw attention to herself and inform hotel personnel, who rushed to the scene in response to the request for help.

Staff at the hotel stepped in right away to address the situation and make sure that the employee was safe. The incident was then brought to the attention of the manager of the Pakistan team, Naveed Cheema, who got involved and worked with the team to resolve the situation internally. Sources indicate that hotel management was dissatisfied with how the incident occurred and was requesting that strict action be taken against the player involved.

It appears that the management of the Golden Crown Hotel originally wanted stronger disciplinary action taken. However, the matter was ultimately resolved after Cheema apologized to the hotel management for the actions of the player on behalf of the Pakistan team. After discussing the situation internally, the player was fined for his inappropriate actions by the team management, but the specifics of the discipline were not disclosed.

PCB Could Take Additional Disciplinary Action

While the incident was dealt with internally during the event, it is expected that there will be further repercussions beyond that. According to sources, PCB will most likely conduct a full investigation into the situation once the team returns from the World Cup.

The player may be asked to attend a hearing before the PCB Disciplinary Committee, which will review the facts of the case to determine whether any further disciplinary action is warranted. The incident has raised concerns about player discipline and conduct off of the field by members of Pakistan's national team while on an overseas tour, particularly when the team is already facing scrutiny for its poor performance at this tournament.
