There was a decent amount of pressure on Dasun Shanaka when he stood on his bowling mark and was given the responsibility of defending 14 runs before the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 clash for the Seattle Orcas against the Texas Super Kings at the Knight Riders Cricket Field in Pomona.

What Shanaka did next was superb as he picked up four wickets in as many deliveries, including a hat-trick, to restrict the Orcas to 112 runs for the loss of nine wickets and win the encounter by nine runs. It was some extraordinary bowling from the right-arm pacer.

On the first delivery of the 20th over, Shubham Ranjane threw his arms at the back-of-length delivery and flayed it over the backward point region, with the ball reaching the fence for a boundary. However, on the third delivery of the last over, Dasun Shanaka dismissed Donovan Ferreira for 22 runs.

On the very next delivery, the right-arm pacer sent back Calvin Savage for a golden duck. It was a leg cutter from the former Sri Lanka captain as the big back-lift from Savage thumped it downtown into the hands of long-on. And he completed the hat-trick with the wicket of Adam Milne as he jumped and punched the air in delight.

Shanaka didn’t stop here and picked his fourth wicket on the fourth delivery, sending back Amshi de Silva for another golden duck in the scorecard. He got down to swipe across the line as the top edge ended into the hands of Shimron Hetmyer. Shanaka ended with 4/26 in four overs.

“It feels amazing to get a double hat-trick. It's a different stage, but I'm really happy. Of course, indeed it is. Yeah, all in my cricket career (first hat-trick).” Shanaka expressed after the end of the game.
