By the end of the fifth ball of the 17th over during the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 between the Los Angeles Knight Riders and the Seattle Orcas, Rovman Powell had one eye on the record of six consecutive sixes, having already smashed five successive ones against Dasun Shanaka.

The Sri Lankan bowler came to bowl his final over of the spell with figures of 1/29 in three overs. And he came up against the wild power of Powell, who smashed the first five balls for as many sixes before being dismissed to stop the perfect over.

Rovman Powell walked into the middle on the last delivery of the 12th over with the wicket of Sunil Narine. The right-handed batter opened his account with a fine boundary, slicing the cut to beat the diving fielder at the backward point region. But what he did next shocked the fans around the globe.

On the first delivery of the 17th over, Powell welcomed Dasun Shanaka with a six over the deep mid-wicket region by smacking it powerfully. He cleared the front leg and hoisted the second ball wide of the long-on region for another six before following it up with the same shot over the mid-wicket.

Once the fourth ball was powered handsomely for a six over the long-off region, many started to feel that six sixes could again be a possibility. The fifth delivery was also nailed over the wide long-on for the fifth successive six. But it didn’t end in a fairytale finish for the Barbados-born.
