Former international and current Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel has been fined 25 percent of his match fees, along with one demerit point, for his behavior during the Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL 2025 match yesterday (April 16) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In a viral video on the internet, the former India player was seen arguing with the fourth umpire, which resulted in a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.
The controversy arose when the fourth umpire stopped Delhi Capitals' support staff from entering the field to relay strategic instructions from the bowling coach to the players. This enforcement of protocol led to visible frustration from DC team member Munaf Patel, who reportedly lost his cool over the restriction. The incident highlighted the high-pressure environment of the match and the importance of maintaining fairness and rules, even during critical game moments. In the viral video, it is clear that the former India pacer was arguing with the umpire, tying up his laces at the boundary line. The umpire also responded to Munaf. But it was not clear which kind of words had been exchanged between them. The incident took place during DC's bowling.

In a statement released by IPL authority, it was informed, "Munaf Patel admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.20—which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game—and accepted the Match Referee's sanction." The statement further added, "For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

In an edge-of-the-seat IPL 2025 encounter, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals finished their respective innings at 188, forcing the match into a dramatic Super Over. Jake Fraser-McGurk’s explosive 96 off 64 laid the foundation for DC, while Abishek Porel chipped in with 49. Later, Tristan Stubbs (34*) and Axar Patel (34) powered DC to a competitive 188/5. RR responded strongly with fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana. Despite looking in control, they fell short in the final over due to Mitchell Starc’s brilliant death bowling.
With scores tied, the match moved to a Super Over — a tiebreaker where each team gets one over (6 legal deliveries) to score as many runs as possible with just two wickets in hand. Rajasthan Royals batted first but managed only 5 runs, with Shimron Hetmyer getting run out. Delhi then chased it down with calm and composure, sealing a thrilling victory. The Super Over added to the high drama, making it one of the most memorable finishes of IPL 2025.
