Axar Patel could have won the player of the match award only because of his fielding during the second semifinal of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India and England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He was excellent in the field, both in stopping the boundaries and grabbing the catches on the boundary line.

One of his craziest catches came when Arshdeep Singh dismissed Will Jacks for 35 runs in 20 balls. It was a wide delivery from the off stump by the left-arm pacer as Arshdeep went for a slash with the ball nearly crossing the boundary rope. Axar Patel came running in and lost the balance without losing the awareness of the cushions.

He grabbed the catch and showed excellent awareness of tossing the ball into the hands of Shivam Dube, who will be registered as the official catcher of the dismissal. Suryakumar Yadav wrapped Axar in his arms in celebration to get the timely wicket of the England explosive all-rounder.

Earlier in the game, Jasprit Bumrah’s slower delivery foxed the England captain, Harry Brook, who got the ball high in the air before Axar grabbed an outstanding catch running backwards, from the extra cover region, as he kept his eyes on the ball for the entire period and didn’t let it come off his grasp.
