Delhi Capitals all-rounder files FIR after receiving international blackmail threats

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Vipraj Nigam, who gained attention for his strong performance in the IPL 2024–25 season, has filed a police complaint after receiving blackmail threats and international calls. The young cricketer said that a woman made unreasonable demands and threatened to make a video viral if he didn’t agree.

According to reports, Vipraj, who lives in Bhatkheda ward in the Haidergarh Kotwali area of Barabanki district, filed a report at Nagar Kotwali Police Station. He said that after he blocked the woman’s number, the threats continued from international numbers, with repeated attempts to damage his career and defame his family. Vipraj told police that this was a planned conspiracy to harm his image and mentally harass him.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is in progress. Officers are checking call records and digital evidence to trace the source of the calls and identify those behind the blackmail attempt.

Police Start Probe into Threat and Blackmail Case

According to Vipraj’s complaint, the woman had been blackmailing him over the phone with unreasonable demands. She allegedly threatened to make a private video viral if he refused to comply. Even after blocking her number, Vipraj reportedly received repeated threats through international calls, warning him of public defamation. On Sunday afternoon, the cricketer personally visited the police station to file a written complaint, after which officers registered a case immediately.

City police officer Sudhir Kumar Singh said the team is gathering evidence and verifying the call details. Vipraj Nigam, who plays for Delhi Capitals, had a great IPL 2025 season, scoring 142 runs in 14 matches and taking 11 wickets. Known for his all-round talent, Vipraj is now facing this unexpected controversy that has shocked the cricket community.
