On a surface that has been slow and tough to bat on, any team would not want to get robbed of a foul decision. But the exact situation took place during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The sixth and seventh-ranked sides met each other in the contest, which was equally important for them to get ahead in the qualification road to the playoffs. Both teams have been hot and cold in their respective journeys, and it was an important game to show their skills and temperament in both departments.

It was the third delivery of the tenth over of the first innings when the Chennai Super Kings sent back the number three DC batter, Nitish Rana, to the pavilion for 15 runs. On the previous delivery, the left-handed batter rocked back and smashed the short ball into the gap of the square into the ground for a boundary.

On the very next delivery, Noor Ahmed had his revenge with the wicket of the Delhi batter. The southpaw picked the tossed-up delivery outside the off stump and got the sweep into the hands of the fine leg fielder. That was a good shot, but at the wrong position.

But there was the twist. A video went viral on the special media platforms, which showed that on that very ball, while Nitish played the sweep, the wicket-keeper, Sanju Samson, had broken the stumps.

In that case, it should be called a dead ball according to the rule, where the keeper has no right to dislodge the stumps intentionally or unintentionally. That was where the Capitals were robbed.

Sameer Rizvi’s 40* shoulders DC to fighting score

Delhi didn’t make a great start with the bat as they were restricted to 69/5 in 11 overs, with their top five getting starts but failing to convert them into a good score. Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi posted a strong 50+ stand for the sixth wicket, which settled their nerves and cleared the platform.

The latter ended up with a dashing knock of unbeaten 40 runs off 24 balls at a strike rate of 166.67, shouldering on four over boundaries. Even Ashutosh Sharma played a fine hand of 14 runs with two sixes in just five balls as the hosts finished with 155/7 in their 20 overs.
