On Thursday, India used seven bowlers to win the T20I series opener against Sri Lanka by 62 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. One of the batters in the series opener, a 27-year-old, raised his hand for death-over bowling, as well as revealed his conversation with T20I vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah.

As well to Bumrah, other pacers who grabbed a total of six wickets in the match against Sri Lanka included Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Hooda. Prior to the death overs, Shreyas Iyer revealed he had a conversation with Bumrah about whether he would bowl in them, although it didn’t work out for him. During the ODI series in South Africa last month, Shreyas served as the sixth bowler in one of the games. In the match, India defeated Sri Lanka by 62 runs after restricting them to 137/6. Bhuvneshwar was the best bowler, taking 2/9 in two overs.

Chahal and Jadeja each picked up one wicket while Venkatesh picked up two in three overs for 36 runs. Indian captain Ishan Kishan hit an unbeaten 89 and Shreyas Iyer made 57 off 28 balls earlier in the evening, helping the team to 199/2 in 20 overs. India will aim to wrap up the series in the second T20I after leading 1-0. Dharamsala will host the match on February 26.
