Watch: "BCCI will do…" — Devajit Saikia breaks silence on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's India future after IPL 2026
The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has made a massive promise on the future of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the Indian side after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devajit Saikia, has made a massive promise to the 15-year-old new star, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who completed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as the biggest superstar of the event. He was named the ‘player of the tournament’ for the edition.
In the next few days, Sooryavanshi will travel to Sri Lanka for the tri-series, with Afghanistan among the A-side, where he hopes to continue the same aggressive approach at the opening spot and do wonders for Indian cricket in the future.
"BCCI will do what's best" — What Saikia's statement actually means for Sooryavanshi's selection
Just moments after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their second successive IPL title in 2026, beating the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Saikia commented that they would do everything possible to make the Bihar-born player a part of the national side.

“It was a wonderful season. I hope all the fans have a lovely time during this IPL, and congratulations to RCB for winning the tournament consecutively twice. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a wonderful player coming up, and he has a bright future. BCCI will do everything to get him to the highest level of cricket.” Saikia expressed.
He also wished well for the Indian women’s side for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, where they would begin their campaign against Pakistan and aim to get their very first title of the event.
“That is the most challenging thing coming up in the coming days. They (Women in Blue) are already doing well... and I hope they will repeat the same performance they did last year by winning the ODI title.” The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary commented.
How Sooryavanshi's IPL 2026 season left BCCI with no choice
Sooryavanshi finished the IPL 2026 as the leading run-getter of the IPL 2026. The left-handed batter smashed 776 runs in 16 innings at an average of 48.50 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 237.30, thanks to five half-centuries and one century at the best score of 103 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The Rajasthan Royals- star broke the record of most sixes (72) in one edition of the IPL. Out of his 776 runs, more than 500 runs came inside the power play for him, which is a bizarre record. During the two playoff contests against SRH and the Gujarat Titans, he had scores of 97 (29) and 96 (47).
