It was a homecoming for Shardul Thakur, who will play for the Mumbai Indians from the 2026 IPL season. Thakur has also played for Chennai Super Kings in the past. He will become one of the few players to represent both of the most successful teams in IPL history.

Shardul Thakur, the Indian bowling all-rounder, will play for the Mumbai Indians in the 2026 IPL season after being traded from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Thakur joined the Super Giants in IPL 2025 as a replacement player. He has moved to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal for ₹2 crore and will form a key pace partnership with Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Deepak Chahar.
Mumbai Indians will be Thakur’s seventh IPL team and his fifth team in the last five years. He has been traded, released, and picked in the auction several times. Previously, he has played for Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants.

He joins other greats like Mike Hussey, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Piyush Chawla, Robin Uthappa, and recently Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, and Dewald Brevis.
