A five-match Test series will be played between India and England. The first match of the series will start on June 20. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also announced the Team India squad for this series.

This time, Team India will be seen in a new form. The captaincy of the team is now in the hands of Shubman Gill, while Rishabh Pant has also been given an important role. These big changes have been made after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket.

Now, a big update has come out — Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir will address a press conference on June 5.  During this time, they may talk about their plans and team combination. This will be the first press conference for Captain Shubman Gill. So, it will be interesting to see how he handles the questions from the media. He will also be asked about the playing 11 and the number 4 position in the batting order.

Shubman Gill faces many tough challenges. His biggest challenge in Test cricket is to score runs. After playing 32 matches, Gill’s average is 35.05. His best score during the Australia tour was just 31 runs. He has only one fifty in his last 11 Test innings. In England, his average from three Tests is just 14.66.

Three senior players — Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma — have retired from Test cricket. It is always tough to replace big players after their retirement. Gill now has to find replacements for all three.

When Dhoni became captain, he had support from legends like Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, and Laxman. When Kohli became captain, he had players like Pujara and Rahane. Rohit had Virat in his team. But Gill has only Rishabh Pant as a consistent batsman. KL Rahul’s place in the team was also not fixed till the Australia series.

Gill’s first tour as captain is very challenging. India last won a Test series in England in 2007. Indian batsmen have always struggled in England. So, Gill will have no easy time. He will have to face pressure from day one.

India needs good performances from fast bowlers to win in England. But the main pacer, Mohammed Shami, is not fully fit. Jasprit Bumrah can play only three Tests on the tour. Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep have not proved themselves yet. Siraj’s recent form is not good. Shardul Thakur is returning after a gap, and Arshdeep Singh is yet to play a Test match.

Team India's squad against England:

Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper and vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav.
