Why Sunil Grover Faced Backlash for Mimicking Rohit Sharma

Sunil Grover, who is popular for his comedy and celebrity mimicry, recently came under criticism after performing an act based on cricketer Rohit Sharma in a promotional advertisement. The video spread quickly online, but it did not receive only positive responses.

In the advertisement, he attempted to recreate Rohit Sharma’s calm behaviour and easygoing speaking style. The act was designed humorously, including intentional line mistakes for comic effect. However, many viewers felt the imitation did not fully reflect Rohit Sharma’s real personality.

Soon after the clip went viral, social media users shared mixed opinions. While some appreciated the comedy approach, others said it looked less convincing than expected. A few even joked that the performance was closer to Jasprit Bumrah’s style rather than Rohit Sharma’s.

Rohit Sharma's Performance in IPL 2026

The former Mumbai Indians captain has started the IPL 2026 season in strong form as an explosive opener for the Blue Brigade. In three matches, he has scored 118 runs at an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of 168.57. His best performance came against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he played a brilliant 78 off 38 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes, helping MI chase a big target of 221 runs.

In the same match against KKR, Rohit Sharma also registered his fastest IPL fifty and showed great power-hitting ability. He followed it with a steady 35 runs against the Delhi Capitals on a difficult pitch, where batting was not easy. However, he managed only 5 runs against the Rajasthan Royals in the third match.

Overall, the Mumbai Indians have won one out of their three matches and are placed in the middle of the table. Even so, Rohit Sharma’s batting form and experience have played an important role for the team in the early stages of the tournament.
