Fatima Sana fined for send-off to Shafali Verma during Asia Cup 2026 clash vs India

ICC has fined Fatima Sana 10% of her match fee and handed a demerit point for her send-off to Shafali Verma during the Women's Asia Cup 2026 clash, which India won by seven wickets

The Pakistan captain, Fatima Sana, has been fined 10% of her match fee and was handed one demerit point due to her send-off to the Indian opening batter, Shafali Verma, during the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 clash against the arch-rivals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 05.  

It was the Pakistan captain's second offence in the 24 months, taking her collection to two demerit points. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side ended up winning the contest by seven wickets when they completed the chase of 56 runs with 68 balls to spare.

The incident took place during the second over of India’s chase, when the right-handed batter Shafali gave a return catch to Sana, who gestured in the direction of the batter while celebrating, which invited the attention of the officials. Sana was charged by the two on-field umpires. Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy.

Later, the third umpire, Rokeya Sultana, and the fourth umpire, Rabab Ahsan, also spoke to her. Sana admitted to the mistake in her meeting with the match referee Supriya Rani Das. The offence was a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC’s code of conduct for the players and the match officials.

It is related to “using language, actions or the gestures which could provoke an aggressive reaction from the batter upon his or her dismissal during an international match.” Her previous incident of getting the demerit point happened during the T20I clash against Ireland in Dublin on August 06, 2025.

How India bowled out Pakistan for 55 and cruised to a seven-wicket win

Pakistan were bowled out for just 55 runs in the first innings of the contest as only two of their opening batters, Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqur, made it into the double figures of their scorecard. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat returned with their three-wicket hauls each while Deepti Sharma picked up 2/5 in 3.1 overs.

India, meanwhile, completed the chase of 57 runs by seven wickets with 68 balls to spare. Sana was the only successor with the ball for Pakistan, claiming 3/17 in her three overs at an economy rate of 5.70. 

Brief Scores: India 57/3 (Harmanpreet Kaur 18*, Fatima Sana 3/17) beat Pakistan 55 Shawaal Zulfiqur 14, Shree Charani 3/7, Prema Rawat 3/9) by 7 wickets.
