Former Delhi Capitals batter records joint fastest Women's T20 fifty

In the Women's Super Smash 2025-26 in New Zealand, a former Delhi Capitals Women player recorded the joint fastest fifty in Women's T20 history. 

It was the third game of the tournament on Sunday (December 28), where Canterbury Women faced Otago Women at Molyneux Park in Alexandra. After Otago sent Canterbury to bat first, Canterbury scored 145/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Otago chased down the target in 146/4 in 14.5 overs, where the 35-year-old Laura Harris equalled the record for the fastest Women's T20 fifty. 

Laura Harris recorded a 15-ball fifty

At chasing, Laura Harris slammed a 15-ball fifty, as she scored 52 runs off just 17 balls with six fours and four sixes, as she ended with a strike rate of 305.88. Her powerful batting resulted in a comfortable chase for her team, as Otago won the match by six wickets with 31 balls remaining.

Laura Harris equalled Marie Kelly's record

England cricketer Marie Kelly previously lonely held the record of the fastest fifty in Women's T20 cricket history with a 15-ball fifty for Warwickshire in the 2022 Women's Twenty20 Cup. 

Coming back to the Canterbury Women vs Otago Women match, Laura Harris won the Player of the Match after Otago claimed a stormy win, as they are leading the point table with five points after the first match. Harris previously served for the Women's Premier League team Delhi Capitals, where he played one match in the inaugural WPL edition. 

In Canterbury Women's innings, only Izzy Sharp and Jodie Dean managed to score some useful runs. While Sharp scored 65 off 87 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Dean scored 34 off 30 balls with four fours and one six.
