The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, has given credit to their vital members, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, for them winning the T20 World Cup 2026 after beating New Zealand in the final.

The Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has given credit to their former head coach, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman, who take the responsibility of the blue brigade as the partial head coach, after the home side won the T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand by 96 runs at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gautam Gambhir has dedicated the victory to the three former team-mates, who, according to the head coach, has laid the groundwork for his own tenure, and for the depth of the talent that helped in building the culture within the side.

“I think I should dedicate this trophy to Rahul bhai and then to Laxman. Because of what Rahul bhai has done to keep Indian cricket in such good shape. I have to thank him for everything what he's done during his tenure.” Gambhir expressed during the post-match press conference.
Gautam Gambhir lauds Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman for T20 WC 2026
Rahul Dravid coached the Indian side to the T20 World Cup 2024 glory after beating South Africa in Barbados while VVS is the current head of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). Dravid also headed the centre until Laxman took over in 2021, as their chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, was the other to be celebrated.

“And then VVS Laxman for unconditionally doing so much for Indian cricket, especially behind the scenes, because CoE remains the pipeline for Indian cricket. Third is obviously Ajit Agarkar, because he does take a lot of flak and I'm thankful for the amount of honesty he's worked with.” Gambhir added in the press-conference with Suryakumar Yadav.
“I felt that we are very blessed as a team and as a coach and captain because of the amount of depth we have in that dressing room. Because we could have played three, four, five combinations. We could have played two wrist-spinners. We could have played batsmen till No. 8. We could have had different combinations at the top. We had three openers who could bat any time at the top.” The head coach addressed.
