In the wake of India’s embarrassing 0-3 loss to South Africa in the one-day international series, Sunil Gavaskar has advised the management team to closely watch three players. Gavaskar was impressed by several individual performances from India in the third ODI, even though the team failed to get over the line. Both ODIs in Paarl were outplayed by India.

For the dead rubber, India made three changes to their playing XI. Gavaskar feels these players need to be out there on the field rather than keeping their benches warm since South Africa has already won the series. India replaced Venkatesh Iyer with Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Prasidh Krishna with Shardul Thakur, following the series win by South Africa. As the first Indian bowler on the tour, Suryakumar scored 39 off 32 with four fours and one six, whereas Prasidh took 3/59 and was the most effective. At the same time, Chahar not only took 2/32 but also scored a scintillating 50. India gave themselves a real chance to end the tour on a high following Chahar’s counter-attacking innings. India collapsed to knock off the final 10 runs as he scored 54 off 34 with five fours and two sixes.

“Make them feel like they have more opportunities now. As a result, they now belong in the team instead of sitting in the dugout. The three names listed above are ones you need to keep an eye on,” Gavaskar explained.
