Harbhajan Singh has strongly called for authorities to take action against the drug abuse problem in Punjab. His earlier post on social media sparked controversy after Punjab Police fact-checked the video he shared. The BJP MP has now responded to the police, saying the focus should remain on solving the drug problem rather than engaging in “one-upmanship.”

Sharing a video on BJP Punjab’s social media account, the former India cricketer said, “Zimmedariyon se bhaagne se hal nahi niklega.. Is par kaam karna padega” (Running away from responsibilities will not solve the problem. Work needs to be done on it). He also criticised the Punjab government and police over their handling of the drug-related issues in the state.

The controversy began after Harbhajan shared a video that allegedly showed two men in a zombie-like state. The clip quickly went viral on social media, with many users linking it to drug abuse in Punjab. However, the exact circumstances shown in the video were not independently verified.

Punjab Police later debunked the claim and clarified that the footage was recorded in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, not Punjab. The police also said the video had no connection with Punjab Police or any incident in the state.

Harbhajan Singh has refused to back down after Punjab Police called his viral “Zombie Drug” post misleading. The two-time World Cup-winning cricketer had shared a video on X while expressing concern over the alleged impact of drug addiction on Punjab’s youth. The video showed two men behaving strangely, leading to comparisons with the so-called “zombie” effect linked to drug abuse.

Harbhajan criticised successive governments over what he described as the worsening situation in Punjab and its impact on the younger generation. He urged people to take action before it was too late and appealed to them to “save Punjab” and its youth from addiction.

Punjab Police later clarified that the video was not recorded in Punjab but in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Despite the clarification, Harbhajan continued to raise concerns about drug abuse in Punjab and stressed that the issue should be taken seriously rather than ignored.

Responding to the controversy, Bhajji questioned whether this footage would also be called a Rajasthan video.

“Kya yeh bhi Rajasthan ki tasveere hai? Baat Punjab ki drug samasya ki hai. Aapke paid troll se yeh mudda chhupaya nahi jayega. Is par kaam karna padega. Zimmedariyon se bhaagne se hal nahi niklega. Baat kisi vyakti vishesh ko target karne ki nahi hai.” Harbhajan said, stressing that the focus should be on the drug problem rather than targeting any individual.

He further called for joint efforts to tackle drug abuse across Punjab and the country. “Punjab aur poore desh mein jo bhi nashile padarthon ka sevan karta hai, use nasha-mukt karane mein jo bhi prayaas kiye jaayein, woh hone chahiye. Ek doosre ki taang na kheenchte hue kaise Punjab ko nasha-mukt banaya jaaye, us par Punjab sarkar ko kaam karna chahiye.”

AAP ministers continue to slam Harbhajan as political row over viral drug video escalates

Harbhajan Singh’s viral drug-related post has triggered a political row, with several AAP leaders criticising the former India cricketer. The controversy began after Punjab Police clarified that the video shared by Harbhajan was actually recorded in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and was not connected to Punjab.

Popular AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of spreading misleading information and questioned whether the message came from the Prime Minister’s Office. “Many BJP people spread this lie together yesterday. Did the order come from the PMO? Does the PMO spread lies in the country?” he wrote. Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur also criticised Harbhajan and accused him of trying to “please his political bosses” while damaging Punjab’s image.

Punjab PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO also targeted the BJP MP, calling the incident the “BJP’s standard modus operandi.” He accused the BJP of using Harbhajan to defame Punjab and described the post as “dirty propaganda.” Meanwhile, Punjab Police continued to urge social media users to verify the facts and location of viral videos before sharing them.
