The premier all-rounder of the Indian side, Hardik Pandya’s wait for a return to competitive cricket is going to continue, with a fresh report claiming that he might not be back in action until next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027, which is likely to be in the last week of March.

The all-rounder, whose last game was in IPL 2026 for the Mumbai Indians, continues to recover from a stress injury to the inner side of his calf. The 32-year-old is undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, and his return is based on the programmed fitness test.

As per the plans of the rehab, Pandya is anticipated to begin jogging after three weeks, after which his running workload will be increased over the following eight weeks. His strength training is being stepped up on medical advice to prevent additional stress on the injured area.

If that is the case, then the Baroda all-rounder will miss the home series against Sri Lanka as well in December. He has missed significant cricket already in 2026, including the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, the tours of England and Ireland where they played 11 white-ball games, the Zimbabwe T20Is and the white-ball series against Afghanistan and West Indies.

Pandya also missed the Asian Games 2026 and the historic T20I against Japan. Moreover, he was not picked for the New Zealand series and won’t play the Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe series at home.

How hard will it be for India without Hardik Pandya at the 2027 ODI World Cup?

It’s always a blessing for any side to have a pace bowling all-rounder, especially for the conditions of the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, where the player could offer seven to eight overs with the ball and pick wickets along with his batting contributions in the middle and lower order.

Hardik’s last competitive match during the IPL 2026 was in May for the Mumbai Indians, for whom he managed only 206 runs in 10 innings of the campaign at a strike rate of 138.25 and collected only four wickets at an economy rate of 11.42.
