Watch: Harshit Rana spotted on crutches at BCCI Naman Awards ahead of Indian Premier League 2026
Star Indian pacer Harshit Rana was seen on crutches at the BCCI Naman Awards, raising doubts over his fitness and availability for IPL 2026.

Three days ago, several media reports said that in a huge blow, all-rounder Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026. Rana injured his knee during a warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai before the T20 World Cup and has not played since then. The 24-year-old had surgery in Mumbai on February 9 but will not recover in time to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the league.
Yesterday, the promising fast bowler for India and Kolkata Knight Riders was spotted using crutches at the BCCI Naman Awards, raising questions about his fitness ahead of the IPL 2026. Videos from the event show him having trouble walking without support, showing that his recovery from the knee injury is still ongoing. Fans and experts are watching his condition closely, as it may affect his future cricket matches.
The pacer attended the ceremony on March 15 but could not walk onto the stage to collect his award for Best International Debut (Men’s). IPL chairman Arun Dhumal walked down the stage and presented the award to Rana himself.

About Harshit Rana’s Knee Injury and Recovery
Harshit Rana suffered a knee injury during a T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa earlier this year. The injury was serious enough to rule him out of India’s T20 World Cup campaign, and Mohammed Siraj was called up as his replacement in the squad. Rana later had knee surgery in Mumbai on February 9. According to medical assessments, the fast bowler is expected to need two to three months for full recovery. While the surgery was successful, this recovery period makes his participation in IPL 2026 highly uncertain.
KKR Faces Big Challenge Without Harshit Rana
Harshit Rana’s possible absence could weaken Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack. The young pacer was a key player in KKR’s title-winning team in 2024 and continued to play an important role in the next season.
Rana took 19 wickets in the 2024 campaign, helping him become a regular player for India in all formats. He was retained by KKR for Rs 4 crore ahead of the 2025 season and took 15 wickets in 13 games that year. KKR has not yet decided on a replacement for Rana. The team expects bowlers like Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi to make the most of the opportunities.
The situation is tougher for the Purple Brigade because Mustafizur Rahman is no longer in the squad, and Matheesha Pathirana is still recovering. KKR has brought in Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe as an option, but replacing Rana’s role in the bowling attack will not be easy.
Rana was especially strong in the death overs, and KKR now needs an Indian pacer who can handle that pressure. Without him, the pace attack of Vaibhav, Umran, Kartik, and Akash may look less experienced heading into IPL 2026.
Rana Receives Best International Debut Award
Harshit Rana was awarded the Best International Debut – Men award. Rana made his Test debut in 2024, ODI debut in 2025, and T20I debut in 2026. He impressed with his all-round skills, especially in the white-ball formats.
In 14 ODIs, Rana has taken 26 wickets at an average of 27.38 and scored 124 runs in seven innings at an average of 24.80. In nine T20Is, he has taken 9 wickets at an average of 33 and scored 57 runs in three innings, with a highest score of 35.
In the two Test matches he has played, he has taken 4 wickets.
