The El Clásico rivalry between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will get its first chapter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium. The two teams are the most successful franchises of the event, with five titles each, and they have displayed some mouth-watering clashes over the years.

Both Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians have faced each other 39 times, with the yellow franchise trailing with a margin of 21-18. In the last four years, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side has led the head-to-head with a 5-2 margin.

Why MI vs CSK is considered IPL’s El Clasico

In 2019, the Mumbai side didn’t lose a single encounter against the arch-rival, including the final by one run. Ahead of the upcoming fixture, there is a massive expectation from both sides’ players to display their best performance with both bat and ball in hand.

The MI star, Suryakumar Yadav, has highlighted how, despite treating the game like others, they feel the heat all the time with a little more pressure of winning that particular contest.

“It’s not like that. Obviously, you want to beat everyone if you compete. But there is something between these two teams. You can call it competition or even a rivalry. It’s the way they play on the ground with the winning attitude and the aggression in a good way.” SKY expressed on Star Sports.

“Both have the greatest energies in the field. Of course, in the past, and even now, it has remained the same. And going forward, it’s not going to die. The heat gets on. When you know it’s MI and CSK, you know the rivalry is there.” The right-handed batter revealed.
