Abhishek Sharma reportedly unhappy with SRH to leave ahead of IPL 2027

India's star opener Abhishek Sharma is reportedly unhappy with Sunrisers Hyderabad and could explore a move away from the franchise ahead of the IPL 2027 season. According to Times of India report, informal discussions have taken place with multiple franchises, although no transfer has been finalised yet.

Abhishek Sharma SRH's unhappy reports are linked to the franchise's captaincy plans involving Ishan Kishan. Abhishek has reportedly had leadership ambitions, while SRH's official position has pushed back against the reports, with CEO K Shanmugam describing the claims as “not true.”

Abhishek Sharma's SRH exit: Why India's star opener is reportedly unhappy and looking for a new IPL home

Abhishek's SRH exit IPL 2027 story has emerged as one of the major talking points ahead of the retention window. The Indian opener has been associated with SRH since 2019 and has developed into an important top-order batter for the franchise. Reports now suggest that the left-handed opener could consider an Abhishek Sharma IPL 2027 transfer if the situation around his role does not change.

The main issue reportedly concerns captaincy. Ishan Kishan was appointed SRH's interim captain at the beginning of IPL 2026 when Pat Cummins was unavailable, with Abhishek serving as his vice-captain. The official IPL website confirmed that arrangement at the time.

With SRH reportedly considering Kishan for the leadership role, reports claim Abhishek is unhappy because he had his own captaincy ambitions. This has led to speculation about an Abhishek Sharma leaving SRH before IPL 2027.

However, Abhishek Sharma's IPL 2027 transfer has not been confirmed. SRH CEO K Shanmugam has denied the reports, while the latest reports say informal conversations have taken place but no substantial deal has emerged.

“It's not a secret anymore that Abhishek Sharma is unhappy at SRH since the captaincy went to Ishan Kishan. He has been with the franchise for a long time and clearly had captaincy ambitions. Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings were being explored as potential destinations, and we can't rule out Delhi Capitals either, since his mentor Yuvraj Singh is part of the set-up now,” a source told TOI.

The biggest question now is who will sign Abhishek Sharma IPL 2027 if he leaves SRH. Reports have linked Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings with the Indian opener, while Delhi Capitals have also been mentioned as a possible destination because Yuvraj Singh is part of their setup.

Abhishek Sharma MI GT IPL 2027 links have attracted significant attention, but there is currently no confirmed deal with either franchise. Punjab Kings are also part of the Abhishek Sharma PBKS DC IPL 2027 discussion, while DC remains another reported option.
