Sanju Samson had already celebrated a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Delhi Capitals at home, and he continued the same aggression during the fixture against the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. That was when they needed someone to stand and deliver under pressure from the beginning to the end.

The home captain, Hardik Pandya, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a high-scoring surface where many wanted to cross the 220-run mark. The wicket-keeper, Sanju Samson, stayed till the end and celebrated an unbeaten century off 54 deliveries at a strike rate of 187.04.

Samson got the chance to free his arms on the no-ball against Jasprit Bumrah as he drove the full-length delivery through the covers. He continued the same aggression with a pull short over the deep square leg stand for a massive six. He smashed the next two balls of Pandya for boundaries.

Bumrah went short against the right-handed batter, who again used the pace of the bat to pull the short ball over the rope for another massive six. Against Allah Ghazanfar, he pulled the short ball towards the deep mid-wicket for an over boundary before celebrating his half-century off just 26 balls.

For the next few overs, the Kerala-born didn’t get the chance to get on strike. But the 16th over of the innings against Krish Bhagat provided him the chance to get back his momentum. He picked the slower one for a huge six of the second ball before crashing two consecutive boundaries.

He welcomed the pacer back in his last over with another six pulled over the deep mid-wicket region before reaching out for the length ball away from his body for the same result. He didn’t take the single on the third ball and repaired it with the last ball, six to celebrate his century off 54 balls.

It was the fifth century for Samson in the history of the IPL as he equaled KL Rahul in the list, won by Virat Kohli’s eight centuries. This knock helped CSK to post a decent knock of 207/6 in their allotted 20 overs before getting two quick wickets of the MI side.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): MI 19/3 (Suryakumar 10*, Akeal Hossein 2/7) vs CSK 207/6 (Sanju Samson 101*, AM Ghazanfar 2/25)
