The previous couple of games were fantastic for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as they earned two successive victories against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, as they went up to the eighth position in the points table.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side defended their total in both clashes, as they were fabulous in picking regular wickets inside the powerplay, which put pressure on the opposition on both occasions. Even though they used Akeal Hossein’s left-arm spin during the first six overs, their pacers were equally clinical.

Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of CSK’s IPL 2026 campaign

Khaleel Ahmed has been excellent at picking early wickets with the new ball inside the power play for the Super Kings. He came into the attack on the 17th to complete his full quota. The left-arm pacer pulled up a few times in the over with cramps.

The star pacer held his right leg. The speculation was whether he had pulled a muscle as he immediately grimaced. That was a worrying sign for the franchise. He tried to run in before stopping again, before finally leaving the fielder as Gurjapneet Singh came to finish the over.

India Today has reported that the Rajasthan pacer has suffered a serious quadriceps injury that will require a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The medical assessments have confirmed the extent of the damage, with the bowler being diagnosed with a Grade 2 tear.

The injury has been described as a high-grade partial tear with a stretch injury of the right rectus femoris tendon, along with the complete tear of the direct head of the muscle. The pacer has been suggested for a long-term rehabilitation with a recovery process of nearly three months, which ruled him out for the remainder of IPL 2026.

How will Khaleel’s injury affect CSK in IPL 2026?

The timing of the pacer’s injury has been really unfortunate for the Super Kings as he has been a key part of their bowling unit, having played in all five matches of this season. He has two wickets in five innings at an economy rate of 8.67, while he bagged 15 wickets in 14 innings at an economy rate of 9.57 in 2025.

His absence will now leave a massive gap for the five-time champions as the event enters a difficult phase of the competition. That will leave them with an option of either bringing Mukesh Choudhary, the left-arm seamer, or going with an extra spin option between Rahul Chahar and Shreyas Gopal.

CSK will now move to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium for their next encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
