West Indies head coach Daren Sammy made an emotional appeal on social media as his team continues to remain stranded in India. The Caribbean side has been unable to travel back home after their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign ended. Their journey has been delayed because of international airspace restrictions. The situation has left the team waiting without a clear timeline.

The West Indies were knocked out of the tournament after losing to India in the Super 8 stage. Since then, the players have not been able to leave the country due to flight disruptions. These problems stem from US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which have disrupted flights in the Gulf airspace. Consequently, a number of international flights have been  either cancelled or delayed.

With uncertainty around when travel will resume, the team continues to stay in India. The mood in the camp was reflected in Sammy’s short but emotional post. "I just wanna go home," Sammy posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Cricket West Indies Statement And Situation Update

Cricket West Indies confirmed that it is working with the ICC and government authorities to find a safe travel solution. Flight operations in the Gulf region remain disrupted, and even Dubai International Airport has reportedly been affected. The board released a statement explaining the situation faced by the team.

"Cricket West Indies (CWI) wishes to advise that the departure of the West Indies Senior Men's Team from India, following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, has been delayed due to international airspace restrictions," the board said. "These restrictions are a direct result of the security threats posed by military action in the Gulf Region, which has impacted several international flight routes and required airlines to adjust scheduled services for safety reasons." A BCCI official also confirmed that the team is still in India and being looked after by the ICC, while Zimbabwe are also stranded for the same reason.
