Sri Lanka will face England in Match 42 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which will be their first Super Eight match as well. The match will be held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Sunday, the 22nd of February.

Sri Lanka had a wonderful group stage before suffering a 6-wicket loss to Zimbabwe in their last league encounter. They scored 178 runs in 20 overs batting first in that match.  Pathum Nissanka once again had a solid knock with a 62, and Kusal Mendis added 44 runs. However, Zimbabwe chased down the target in 19.3 overs, handing Sri Lanka their first loss of the tournament. The team will now look to forget that setback and begin the Super Eight stage with a positive result.

England had a similar group stage performance, winning three out of four games and their only defeat came against the West Indies. England comes into this match after defeating Italy by 24 runs. England posted 202/7 while batting first.  Will Jacks played a quick knock of 53 off 22 balls, and Tom Banton contributed 30 runs. With the ball, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton picked up three wickets each, while Jofra Archer claimed two. England will be confident heading into this crucial clash.

SL vs ENG: Pitch Report

The pitch at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium usually gives a fair contest between batters and bowlers. Batters can score runs easily, while bowlers often take wickets in the middle overs. Fast bowlers get good bounce early in the innings. As the match goes on, the pitch becomes flatter and better for batting. The average first-innings score here is around 167 runs.
