Close to two months after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Final, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the pitch and outfield ratings of every venue of the tournament.

The West Indies and the United States hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 between June 1 and 29, 2024. India won the trophy after beating South Africa by seven runs in the thrilling final. It was India’s second T20 World Cup title; they won their first T20 World Cup trophy in its inaugural edition (2007).

While the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was full of excitement, there were some big controversies about the pitches and outfields.

Three unsatisfactory pitch ratings

New York’s Nassau County Stadium has received “unsatisfactory” ratings for its first two matches of the tournament. Meanwhile, the semi-final pitch of Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, where Afghanistan faced South Africa, has also earned an “unsatisfactory” rating.

New York’s Nassau County Stadium’s first two matches experienced 77 all out from Sri Lanka against South Africa and 96 all out from Ireland against India.

During the match against Ireland, Indian captain Rohit Sharma got a hit on the upper arm and was forced to retired-hurt as a precautionary measure. Another Indian batter Rishabh Pant got hit on the body, while Irish batter Harry Tector got a hit on his finger.

Although most of the next fixtures at the Nassau County Stadium experienced low-scoring matches, all of those games have received "satisfactory" pitch ratings. The "satisfactory" pitch report included the India vs Pakistan schedule, where India defended 119 runs by winning the match by six runs.

Meanwhile, the first semi-final pitch was also controversial due to variable and unpredictable bounces. In that match, Afghanistan were bundled out for 56 runs, and South Africa won by nine wickets. Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott later said, "That's not a pitch you want to play a semi-final on".

Providence Stadium in Georgetown was the other semi-final venue for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where India faced the defending champions England. While India scored 171/7, England were bowled out for only 103 runs. The pitch has received a “satisfactory” rating.

Final pitch was very good

Meanwhile, the final match pitch, Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, has received a “very good” rating. It was a thriller where India scored 176/7 and South Africa replied with 169/8.

In the meantime, the ICC is very happy with the outfields. New York’s Nassau County Stadium and Guyana’s Providence Stadium outfields have received “satisfactory” ratings, while all other outfields have been rated "very good".
