The iconic Eden Gardens is set to for the incredible transformation after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 which can boost the capacity to 85000 with modern facilities.

The iconic Eden Gardens, which is the oldest cricket stadium of India being built in 1864, is currently hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clashes for the Kolkata Knight Riders, under Ajinkya Rahane's captaincy. Considered the home of cricket, the world-famous ground is set to get revamp from the famed designers behind the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium.
The architects have revealed a few designs showing how the Eden Gardens will look once the transformation is complete. The ground remains one of the best choices to host the games for the side in the bilateral series or even in the ICC competitions.
Eden Gardens set to get revamp after IPL 2026
The designs show a new sky deck with the panoramic views and premium seating and glamorous hospitality areas. It will also take the capacity of the venue from 68000 to 85000 and will over six different seating categories for the viewers. This will also include a new IPL fan zone, a museum, and members club.
The Popular chief of the designing association, Siddarth Soni, expressed how the transformation will turn the ground into a 21st century venue with modern technologies.
“The redevelopment project will create a truly 21st century venue at Eden Gardens, with safety, sustainability and the fan experience at the core to meet the requirements of modern-day sport.” Soni said in an interaction.

“For it to continue its legacy and look to the future, particularly for the evolving formats of cricket, we are not just restoring Eden Gardens; we are enhancing an icon.” He addressed.
The Eden Gardens hosted its first Test match in 1932 and has become one of the main grounds for India in cricket games.
CAB president hopeful of making Eden Gardens best in world cricket
The president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly, has vowed to make his home venue the best of the world cricket with comfort, quality, and experience.
“Our vision is to make Eden Gardens one of the finest cricketing venues in the world, not just in capacity but in quality, comfort and experience. I’ve grown up playing here, feeling the roar of this crowd. To now be part of its transformation is deeply special – it’s about giving back to a place that has given me everything.” The former Indian captain highlighted.
Populous, in addition of the Eden Gardens, is also planning their massive project after being hired to design the Manchester United’s new stadium. But in case of Eden’s revamp, it will be interesting to see how many games it misses out in hosting for the KKR side and the national team.
