“If situation…” – Board of Control for Cricket in India breaks silence on LPG crisis affecting IPL 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has spoken about the LPG crisis and how it could put a massive effect on the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on March 28.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) organizers are trying their best to continue the 2026 season of the event amidst the escalating conflict between the USA, Iran, and Israel. The competition begins on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The geopolitical instability has raised questions about the event’s operational backbone. In a communication with India Today, the senior IPL official stated that the league has been prioritizing real-time monitoring over pre-emptive changes. The league has already been pushed so much due to the elections around the country in various states. It comes with excitment of India winning the T20 World Cup under Suryakumar Yadav.
“We cannot pre-empt the situation. We have to wait and watch. Everyone we have spoken to says things are under control. Hotels are saying the same, so we have to go by that for now. As of now, everything is alright. We will keep an eye on the situation. Why should we pre-empt and decide something now?” The IPL official remarked.
BCCI speaks on LPG issues affecting IPL 2026
The IPL remains a cornerstone in the International Cricket calendar, as any disruption has significant commercial and sporting implications. The Board has been aiming to insulate the event from the external geopolitical pressures, as the focus remains on the field in late March.
“We will definitely act as per the situation. If the situation demands that we do something, we will take the necessary steps.” The official has shed light on the future as the Mumbai Indians have been scheduled to play their opening fixture against the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chennai Super Kings will begin their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati before they make their way back to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for their first home game against the Punjab Kings. The last game of the announced 20 games will be between Bengaluru and the Mumbai side on April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium.
