In a shocking move Rohit Sharma reveals IPL 2026 plans to Mumbai Indians

Ahead of IPL 2026, it is reported that Rohit Sharma has submitted a fresh proposal to Mumbai Indians (MI) management. According to claims on social media platforms, the opener wants to commence in a new role.

In the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, the 5-time champions confronted a poor start. They dropped points in multiple matches and were on the verge of an early exit. 

Though the team somehow managed to pull things back and eventually qualified for the knockout stage. Rohit Sharma, the former skipper of Tean India and Mumbai Indians captain, played a pivotal role behind the revival process of the team's form in the IPL 2025 season. Like the team, the opener also sustained a sluggish beginning in the contest.

Later, the opening pair of Sharma and Ryan Rickelton clicked, and MI started to regain momentum. In the IPL 2025 campaign, Sharma scored 418 runs in 15 matches at an average of 29.85. 

Rohit Sharma wants to avoid impact player role?

The Mumbai Indians utilized Rohit Sharma as an impact player. He mostly came only to bat in the previous season. According to the latest reports, Sharma has reportedly informed Mumbai Indians that he will not play as an impact player in the upcoming IPL season. Instead, he wants to play the full 20 overs on the field.

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma, 38, has already retired from T20Is and Tests and is active in international cricket only as an ODI cricketer. It is widely believed that 'Hitman's sole focus is on the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. For that, he has been undergoing strict training management.
