The first match of the India vs South Africa T20I series is significant for the home team, as some of their key players are making comebacks after injury layoffs. Both the teams with a blend of youth and multiple experienced match winners make the first game of the 5-match contest more interesting.
For India, Shubman Gill is making his way back into the team after a neck spasm he received during the first Test of the South Africa tour to India. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is also all set to make a comeback for India after a long injury layoff. The experienced cricketer got injured during the Asia Cup 2025 tournament. With these two cricketers, the batting strength of Team India will definitely increase by some levels.
Eyes will be on the young opener Abhishek Sharma as well. This aggressive batter can single-handedly demolish the entire bowling line-up of South Africa. For India, Sharma emerged as one of the most lethal powers in this format in the recent past. India holds a commanding 18-12 head-to-head advantage in T20Is, but the Barabati Stadium's history against them gives the Proteas a psychological edge.
