India is set to play a two-day warm-up match against the Prime Minister's XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra from November 30 to December 1 as part of their preparations for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This contest aims to help India gear up for their first overseas Day-Night Test, scheduled to begin on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval. Although India has played three pink-ball Tests previously against Bangladesh (2019), England (2021), and Sri Lanka (2022), winning all of them, this will be their first such experience on foreign soil.
Historic matchup against PM XI
The warm-up match marks India's fourth encounter with the Prime Minister's XI, and their first in 20 years. The last time these two teams faced each other was when Steve Waugh captained the PM XI, which included current national coach Andrew McDonald, against an Indian side led by Rahul Dravid. George Bailey, the CA Chair of Selectors, emphasized the significance of representing the PM XI, stating, "Representing the PMs XI is a tremendous honor for any player given its rich history spanning across eight decades. This year’s match also presents an opportunity for players to impress against arguably the strongest side in world cricket."
“We’re delighted to confirm India’s involvement in this year’s Prime Minister’s XI match that emphasises the significance of the fixture on the cricketing calendar,” Nick Hockley, the Cricket Australia CEO, was quoted as saying.
“The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy Series will captivate the cricketing world. Today’s confirmation of the Prime Minister’s XI match is a terrific result for cricket fans, particularly in the ACT and surrounding regions, and adds to an incredible summer of cricket.”
Upcoming test series schedule
India will commence their Test series against Australia with the opening Test starting on November 22 at the Perth Stadium. The subsequent matches will be held in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, hosting the third, fourth, and fifth Tests respectively. India enters the series with confidence, having won back-to-back Test series in Australia. The warm-up match and subsequent Test series promise to be exciting contests as India looks to continue their success in Australia.
