After the 5-match T20 series, India will now host England for a 3-match ODI series. India comes into this series with confidence after securing their 17th consecutive T20I series win at home. However, the ODI squad has several changes compared to the T20 setup. Senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who made their Ranji Trophy comeback after a decade, continue their struggle with poor performances.
Both Rohit and Virat want to find some runs in this one-day series to gain confidence before the upcoming major ICC event, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where their performance will be very crucial for the team's overall performance in the tournament.
Another concern for India is Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Though named in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, his availability remains uncertain. For this ODI series, Harshit Rana fills his absence. If Bumrah’s fitness issues continue until the Champions Trophy 2025, Harshit Rana possibly will take his spot in that tournament as well.
On the other hand, England faces its own challenges after a disappointing 4-1 loss in the T20 series. They are looking to bring some energy into the competition between these two teams. Joe Root’s inclusion, along with players like Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Jofra Archer, and Mark Wood, gives the team hope to perform well in the ODI series and gain confidence before the Champions Trophy 2025.
