India vs Pakistan opener in Hong Kong Sixes 2026

India will lock horns with Pakistan in the blockbuster opening clash when the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 gets underway towards the end of October. The city team, who has been recovering themselves from the frustration of not getting the qualification for the Asian Games, will be participating with Australia and England in a group.

The 2026 season will be the third since the Sixers were removed in 2024. Some of the star players of the past, the new England Test head coach Stephen Fleming, Brian Lara, late Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and others, who coached them.

Anshy Rath, the opening batter of the Hong Kong side, expressed his view on the competition. He grew up watching the competition at the old Kowloon Cricket Club home.

“It was a brilliant initiative from Cricket Hong Kong, China [CHKC] to bring it back, because it’s part of our cricketing culture. You won’t find a player who’s had a bad experience at the Sixes. It’s a fantastic benchmark for Hong Kong players, and allows the city to be broadcast to the world.”

Pakistan, the defending champions, target a record-breaking seventh title, and are pooled with the UAE along with India. Sri Lanka are in a group with Bangladesh and debutants Scotland.

“The Sixes is unique; it’s not just about cricket; it’s about globally showcasing the vibrant city of Hong Kong, and it’s an opportunity for our players to compete with some of the world’s best.” The CHKC chairman, Burji Shroff, reflected.

“We’re profoundly grateful for the government’s unwavering support. Their decision to award the Sixes ‘M’ Mark status for a third consecutive year is both an honour and a strong vote of confidence.” He concluded.

India and Pakistan to meet again at ODI World Cup 2027

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will meet each other three times in the Asia Cup at the best. They are confirmed to meet each other in the group stage and later in the second stage. That will be followed by their meeting in the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The Shubman Gill-led side will meet Pakistan on October 10 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. That will be the first contest between the two sides in the group stage. In case the pre-seeded teams qualify, the second possible fixture between them will be on November 07 at the Newlands in Cape Town.

Both these sides can again meet each other in either the semifinal or the final of the event, which will be a delight for the fans around the globe.
