The Indian Premier League 2026 is yet to begin, and some teams are already under pressure due to several fitness issues among the players.
More than 10 players are on the injury lists ahead of the IPL 2026. While some players are almost sure to miss the entire season, others are set to miss at least the early part of the season.
The injured players are Pat Cummins (SRH), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), Nathan Ellis (CSK), Harshit Rana (KKR), Matheesha Pathirana (KKR), Adam Milne (RR), Sam Curran (RR), Jack Edwards (SRH), Eshan Malinga (SRH), and Wanindu Hasaranga (LSG). Moreover, New Zealand right-arm fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, an important member of the Punjab Kings, is set to miss the early part of the season to spend family time, as he recently became a father.
Most of the injured players are foreigners, which makes the workload tougher for the team management to handle the team structure.
Teams most affected by injuries before Indian Premier League 2026
As we have brought the injured players' names with their respective teams, it is clear that SunRisers Hyderabad have been affected the most with three injuries, including their captain Pat Cummins.
Also, the Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Knight Riders have two names each in the injury list. Moreover, we can't forget that KKR have to cancel their signing of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, as they later replaced him with Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani. Both teams have suffered in the key bowling line-ups, which put them into more vulnerable situations.
Replacement options and squad changes for IPL 2026 teams
Teams are looking for replacement options before the beginning of the IPL 2026. However, the replacements are not going to be easy for the franchises, as most of the players are in recovery states.
Jack Edwards, Sam Curran, Adam Milne, and Nathan Ellis are the reported names who have been ruled out of the entire IPL 2026. Now, the franchises have to work hard to fill up the gaps quickly and efficiently to make a strong statement early in the season.
While the Pakistan Super League 2026 is set to run simultaneously, there is hardly any international cricket among the Full Members during the IPL 2026, excluding the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh. IPL franchises have already hit the PSL with some late signings, which can be continued after a few more late injuries for the IPL franchises.
