Chennai Super Kings have reportedly been dealt a major setback as Nathan Ellis is reportedly ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2026 due to injury. The Australian pacer is understood to have picked up a hamstring injury isue ahead of the tournament, putting his participation in serious doubt.

It is a big blow for us. Ellis is a crucial bowler, especially in the death overs. We are looking at replacements,” said CSK CEO K.S. Viswanthan to Sportstar on Thursday during an event to announce Kauvery Hospitals as an official partner of the team.

How this impacts Chennai Super Kings’ bowling attack

Nathan Ellis's absence can be said to be a big blow for the five-time champion, as this time the responsibility of bowling in the death overs was supposed to be on him. Before the mini-auction, Chennai's franchise had released Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana, who had been a death over specialist bowler for several seasons, but his performance in the last season was quite ordinary.
