IPL 2023: Yashasvi Jaiswal's inspiring journey from Panipuri vendor to IPL star goes viral

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young and talented cricketer from Mumbai, has been making headlines for his inspiring journey from being a panipuri vendor to an IPL star. The 19-year-old left-handed batsman, who currently plays for the Rajasthan Royals, scored a magnificent century against the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, which further cemented his place in the team and left the cricketing world in awe.

Jaiswal’s journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. He was born in Suriyawan, a small village in Uttar Pradesh, where his father was a shopkeeper. However, the family had to move to Mumbai when Jaiswal was just 11 years old after his father’s business failed. They had to live in a small tent on the ground of the Muslim United Club in the Muslim-dominated area of Bhendi Bazaar. To make ends meet, Jaiswal started selling panipuris on the streets, while also training hard to pursue his passion for cricket.

Despite facing several challenges, Jaiswal remained focused on his goal of becoming a cricketer. He used to train at the Azad Maidan, one of Mumbai’s most famous cricket grounds and caught the attention of several coaches. He soon started playing for local clubs and performed consistently, which helped him earn a spot in the Mumbai Under-16 team. Jaiswal’s talent and hard work paid off when he became the highest run-scorer in the 2018 Under-19 Asia Cup, which earned him a place in the Indian Under-19 team for the World Cup.

Jaiswal’s performance in the Under-19 World Cup was exceptional, as he scored 400 runs in six matches and was named the Player of the Tournament. He caught the attention of several IPL teams and was eventually picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 2.4 crore. Jaiswal made his IPL debut in the 2022 season, and although he didn’t have a great start, he continued to work hard and improve his game.

His knock of 112 runs off just 60 balls helped the Rajasthan Royals post a mammoth total of 229 runs, which they successfully defended to win the match. Jaiswal’s century was hailed by several cricketing legends, including Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, who praised his talent and dedication.

“I still think the same and I stay the same. I haven’t made any extraordinary changes in my life, and I am not going to either. I want to move forward in the same way I’ve done so far. I know how much hard work and dedication it takes to achieve what you want. So I will be like that. I know myself. I am so blessed. Thank you, God, and thank you cricket. Seriously,”

Jaiswal said.
