Punjab Kings has to overcome multiple hurdles before they set a playing XI to face Mumbai Indians in a crucial match that can decide the top 2 teams. While their prime spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is uncertain about the MI clash today due to a possible wrist injury, Marco Jansen has already left India to join South Africa's national camp.
South Africa is scheduled to face Australia for the World Test Championship Final (WTC final) on June 11. Prior to that high-voltage match, the cricket governing body of South Africa asked their squad players to join the camp, including Marco Jansen, for preparations.
Behind the recent dominating performance of Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings, Marco Jansen is one of the main reasons. The tall South African pacer was a constant performer for the team. The left-arm fast bowler played 13 IPL 2025 matches and took 14 wickets with a 9.26 economy rate; in the last 5 matches, 6 batters fell short against Jansen.

With out the service of the pacer, Iyer and Ricky Ponting have to revise their strategy for the Mumbai Indians match. Kyle Jamieson can be the best man in the squad to replace Jansen. Jamieson signed in for Punjab Kings for IPL 2025 as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson at his reserve price of INR 2 crore.
The right-arm pacer from New Zealand can generate extra pace using his height and has previous experience playing in the Indian Premier League. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at INR 15 crore in the 2021 IPL auction and has also been a part of the Chennai Super Kings setup. So far he has played 9 matches to take 9 wickets with a 9.60 economy rate.
