After a fairly one-sided game with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 19, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) became the fifth team of the ongoing IPL 2025 to be eliminated. It was a high-scoring affair in the Ekana Cricket Stadium, both teams scoring over 200. But in the end, it was SRH who cruised past LSG's total with ease and registered their fourth victory of IPL 2025.
More than the match result, Nicholas Pooran became one of the most discussed points of the match. The star Caribbean player lost his cool in the dressing room and smashed their pad onto the ground; the moment did not take too much time to go viral on social media.
The left hand batter, who is mainly known for his swashbuckling batting style, took a different approach against SRH; he didn't hit a single over boundary until the final 20th over. Pooran was unbeaten on 38 off 24 balls before the last over and hadn't hit a single maximum.
He started the over with a huge 93-meter six against Nitish Reddy and fell for a run-out in the third ball of the over, and in the fourth and fifth deliveries, Shardul Thakur and Abdul Samad lost their wickets, which triggered the West Indian batter. As soon as Samad was dismissed, Pooran, in anger, smashed his pad on the floor of the dressing room; he was clearly frustrated.
It was a must-win match for Lucknow Super Giants to keep themselves in the race for the playoffs, but they couldn't succeed. Sunrisers Hyderabad got 206 runs in only 18.2 overs in reply to LSG's 205, thanks to Abhishek Sharma's stormy 59 off 20. Pooran has set an incredible record in IPL 2025 with 35 over-boundaries, the most by any individual in the tournament.
